Here's
an easy, effective way to increase your models versatility.
A detachable landing gear setup makes some interesting conversions
possible, eases the task of covering the model, and makes model
storage easier! |
Here's the basic setup: |
- Make "A" from 1/16" ply.
- Make "C" from 1/32" ply.
- Make "B" from strips of balsa thicker than
LG wire.
- Glue "B" to "A" using pre-bent LG
leg as a template.
- Sand "B" to thickness of wire.
- Glue "C" to "B"
- Glue the assembly into the fuselage side.
Additional bracing may be
required, depending on the particular structure you place
this assembly into.
There are many uses for detachable landing gear. One possibility
is removeable "display-only" gear for those scale
models you prefer to fly "gear-up."
Another option: Swap those wheels out with some floats!
