Pete Iliffe's Albatros D.III
written by Bill Brown
July 21, 2004

Pete is a long standing friend of mine and is a meticulous craftsman. He doesn’t build many models, but they are all exquisitely built and superbly detailed.

This model is built to 1/18 scale and features a fully sheeted, jig-built fuselage. All of the formers are fretted out exactly as the prototype.

The manifolds and cylinder heads are blue foam and the cylinders are from heat formed styrene. Spark plugs are 14BA nuts and bolts.

The machine guns are made from bond paper and cocktail sticks.

Undercarriage legs are made from aluminium tube flattened around a wire core, and plug into brass tubes mounted in the fuselage. The axle is bungee sprung as per the original.
