Gee Whiz!

A Gee Bee Racer on a diet makes a charming Free Flight Bostonian!

Gee Bee on a diet!
The Gee Whiz was created upon my return to modeling after a few years’ hiatus. Prior to that I’d focused on contest Old Timer rubber for years, with the odd sport RC ship thrown in here and there. But this time I wanted something a bit more light-hearted and small enough to fly at the local parks. The design is true to scale in profile, and adjusted in size to include Bostonian Box dimensions in the fuselage.

By coincidence, the wing chord came out very close to the required 3 inches – is that Karma, or what? The windshield should be pretty close to the required one square inch for Bostonians. Detailed construction notes are included in the free plan download, but I’ll skim over some of the more interesting points in this article.

The Gee Whiz has a large thrust-button to represent a radial engine hub, and to accommodate thrust line adjustments. Two thrust-setting screws are set into the nose block to make adjustments very convenient.
