| R/C Makeover
for a Free-Flight Jimmie Allen! |
|
|
Think you have to make a lot of modifications to convert a free flight
model to radio control? Well think again! Jeff Runnels shows how simple
it is to make a great R/C flyer from an inexpensive free-flight kit.

Choosing My Subject
I wanted something a little different that would be an attractive
and stable slow flyer suitable for small areas. The model had
to be fairly small, with a light wing loading for slow speed
and close-in maneuvering. At the time the Free
Flight Cookup group was doing a Jimmie Allen build, and
the ”BA Parasol” was one of the choices. It looked
like an excellent candidate to convert to electric RC. The model
has a reputation as a good flyer and has enough wing area packed
into its 28-inch span to keep the wing loading down. Coincidentally,
a fellow FFCookup member had already done a successful conversion
of the BA Parasol to electric R/C. So I felt confident with
this choice.
